Funding Needs

Do you want to know how to win as quickly as possible? Play with the starburst free spins right now. There’s a lot of money and fun! Floyd County elementary students have been receiving backpacks of weekend food through Blessings in a Backpack for several years now. Blessings in a Backpack is a non-profit organization started in Louisville, Kentucky in 2008 that serves children suffering from food insecurity in 45 states.

In past years, the food for Floyd County students has been paid for through generous donations of community corporate partners, such as Horseshoe foundation of Floyd County, the City of New Albany, Wal-Mart Foundation, and Blue Sky Foundation, as well as some churches and numerous individual donors.

We are budgeting to feed 2,000 NAFCS students for 38 weeks of the school year. It costs $80 to feed a student for the school year.

Our 2015-2016 budget for NAFCS students = $160,000

This year, we have been incredibly fortunate to secure the continued support of the Horseshoe Foundation of Floyd County and the City of New Albany, each of which has committed to donating $35,000. However, those donations will fund less than half our county’s need for this year.

We are currently seeking additional financial support from businesses, churches and individuals who care about the future of Floyd County! If your business, church or other organization can help us provide nutritious, ready-to-eat meals for the Floyd County children we serve or would like more information about how to do so, please contact us at

Many Thanks to Our Supporters

We extend our sincere appreciation to all of the Southern Indiana and Kentucky organizations and businesses which have supported Blessings and to the countless individual donors who have sent in checks, bought raffle tickets, participated in fundraising events at schools or dropped money in collection jars at events held by Blessings in a Backpack volunteers.  Donations from individuals account for a one-third of the funds we receive!
